Most classes include hands-on skills practice and take between 2–6 hours to complete. Certifications are typically valid for two years.
STATE LAW
Louisiana has required CPR training for high school graduation since the 2014-2015 school year. All licensed childcare providers must maintain Adult, Child, and Infant CPR, AED, and First Aid certification as required by the Louisiana Department of Education. Notably, Louisiana is one of the states that requires nurses to maintain Basic Life Support-level CPR and First Aid certification for licensure. EMS professionals must hold Healthcare Provider level BLS through the Louisiana Department of Health. Both AHA and Red Cross certifications are accepted with two-year renewal periods.
