ABOUT
Whether you need CPR certification for your job, to meet school requirements, or for personal preparedness, Iowa has accredited training centers offering American Red Cross, American Heart Association, and ASHI classes. Most classes include hands-on skills practice and take between 2–6 hours to complete. Certifications are typically valid for two years.
STATE LAW
Iowa has been a leader in CPR education, requiring all high school students to complete hands-on CPR training before graduation since 2008. The state mandates that all licensed childcare providers maintain current Adult, Child, and Infant CPR, AED, and First Aid certification with an in-person skills component, and at least one certified staff member must be present at all times. Coaches must also hold valid CPR/AED/First Aid certification through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. Both the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association are accepted certification providers, with certifications typically valid for two years.
