Custom properties — adding your own fields

Define custom fields for deals, contacts, and companies in Settings, then fill them in on any record.

Every business tracks slightly different information. Custom properties let you add your own fields to deals, contacts, and companies — things like "Hospital system name," "Contract renewal month," or "Preferred training day." Once you define a field, it appears on every record of that type.

Where to find custom property settings

How to open custom property settings
  1. 1Go to Admin → Settings (the gear icon in the left sidebar).
  2. 2Click CRM, then click Custom Properties.
  3. 3You will see three tabs: Deal Properties, Contact Properties, and Company Properties.
  4. 4Click the tab for the object you want to add a field to.

Creating a new custom field

How to add a custom field
  1. 1On the Custom Properties page, click + Add Property.
  2. 2Give the field a Label — this is what admins see on the record (for example, "Decision deadline").
  3. 3Choose a Field type:
  4. 4 • Text — a short line of text
  5. 5 • Text area — a longer multi-line note
  6. 6 • Number — for quantities or dollar amounts
  7. 7 • Date — a calendar date picker
  8. 8 • Dropdown — a list of choices you define
  9. 9 • Checkbox — a simple yes/no toggle
  10. 10If you chose Dropdown, add your list of choices one per line.
  11. 11Click Save. The field is now live on all records of that type.

Filling in a custom property on a record

Open any deal, contact, or company record. Scroll down the left column past the standard fields. Your custom properties appear in a section called Custom Properties. Click any field to edit it, type or select your value, and click Save.

Editing or deleting a custom field

Go back to Admin → Settings → CRM → Custom Properties. Find the field you want to change and click Edit (to rename it or change the choices) or Delete (to remove it entirely). Be careful with Delete — removing a field also removes all the data stored in it across every record.

⚠️
Important: Deleting a custom property permanently removes all the values stored in that field on every record. This cannot be undone. If you just want to stop using a field, consider leaving it in place rather than deleting it.
💡
Tip: Keep field names short and clear. "Renewal month" is better than "The month this contract is set to renew." Short names fit better on screen.
